About The Hopton Stitchery

The Hopton Stitchery

Embrace the wobble ......... that's free motion sewing in a nutshell!

I rarely have a plan! I start with a piece of calico...... choose a fabulous sky dependent on my mood , then lose myself for hours as I mess around layering different fabrics and deciding whether I add a dog, a hare, a cottage ...... who knows ! I just love creating whimsical art using fabrics. I use photographed or hand painted skies which I print to fabric, and I especially love sunsets.
I try to upcycle fabrics where i can so I use a lot of old curtain samples, and dress making fabrics as well as experimenting with old papers. I work from my sewing room at home in Worcester, and often have to reposition a very large black labrador who loves to lie on my feet ...... he's called Ted!
I make mainly pictures, but I'm also a keen dressmaker and I will often go down a new sewing rabbit hole such as making cards, key rings, and anything fabric related.
My inspiration comes from my love of nature, and dogs ....... Dogs play a huge role in my life. And because I can't draw too well, I love a touch of whimsy.
I teach workshops too so if you want to learn how to create art like mine, please get in touch!
