Full description

This started life as a small piece of expensive silk curtain fabric patterned with sunflowers. I asked some friends what it reminded them of and it was a choice between the Sydney Opera House and sailboats …… I went for the latter . I used a dark blue curtain remnant for the sky and then created layers of sparkly and textured waves for the ocean. If you look closely you will see curtain fabric that I've frayed, plus slivers of turquoise scrim, some sparkly tulle plus some white mulberry bark slivers. I've then wobbled and wiggled lots of free motion stitching to keep it all in place and added some detail to the " sails" that started life a sunflower petals ….. can you feel the breeze?

Finally I added a small fabric label which sets the scene so well. The frame is white wood and measures 28.5 cm, and it is double mounted with antique white mounts, aperture size 13cm
