Title: The Salt-Worn Traveller (Puffin)
Format: Original Hand-Finished Studio Piece
Dimensions: 20 x 20 cm artwork displayed on a premium 21.5 cm gallery-mount backing board .
"A premium digital reproduction of an original design by Jamie Poole. Individually hand-embellished by the artist."
This piece belongs to 'The Wave' segment of our native British wildlife trilogy, taking its immediate sensory inspiration from the dramatic coastal cliffs where the land meets the chafing tide. It tracks the proud, steadfast presence of the puffin-the salt-worn traveller-gazing out over a silver-harvest sea. The piece is structured around an intimate dialogue between physical mark-making and natural history, featuring a hand-lettered border of naturalist poetry that frames the composition:
"Under a sky of ribbed and silver rings, Where scarped cliffs meet the chafing tide, The salt-worn traveller minds his burrowed hearth... But see the center of the sky's wide arch-His chiseled beak reveals its silver-harvest... He stands a-strut upon the pink-clod ground..."
By embedding the written word directly into the bird's habitat, the design moves beyond a simple animal portrait into a deep, microscopic sensing of the land, celebrating environmental optimism and active wildlife stewardship.

The robust lines of the puffin and the coastal thrift flowers are carved entirely by hand using professional Japanese V-tools in the artist's garden studio. The clean, powerful graphic line work is struck over the digital base. Once outputted, each individual sheet is reactivated and hand-embellished by the artist with subtle pencil marks and selective color highlights, ensuring that no two pieces in the run are identical.
