The Story of the Piece
This piece captures the sharp, bright energy of a native blue tit against the stark, frozen landscape of a British winter. Inspired by the resilience of local wildlife in the Nene Valley, this artwork celebrates the sudden flash of color that breaks the seasonal chill.
The visual landscape functions as a text-painting, seamlessly framing the scene with a border of evocative nature poetry. The stylized frost patterns, seed heads, and winter sky create a rich, layered environment where the printed word and visual texture become one, inviting the viewer to watch narrowly and appreciate the quiet details of the natural world.
The Handcrafted Process
Every single studio multiple is treated as a unique, variable edition. The intricate background layers and textual framing are captured via a high-resolution scan and outputted onto premium Tintoretto Gesso paper, chosen specifically for its beautiful, felt-marked texture that gives the print base a physical, tactile warmth.
The bold, graphic line work of the blue tit and frozen foliage is rooted in traditional lino carving methods designed in the artist's garden studio. Finally, each individual piece is hand-embellished and reactivated by the artist using colored pencils and hand-drawn details, ensuring that no two prints are ever completely identical.
Presentation & Packaging
Authentication: Hand-signed and titled by the artist in graphite pencil within the lower margin.
Mounting: Fitted to a custom-cut, heavy backing board to create a crisp, uniform 21.5 cm white gallery border that frames the print perfectly.
