Unique Collage of a Small Copper Butterfly and a Comma Butterfly

This artwork is a collage of two beautiful butterflies flitting amongst some colourful and quirky flowers only grown in my imagination! The smaller butterfly is a Small Copper which is common and widespread in Britain and Ireland but its range has declined during the 20th century.Found in a variety of habitats but favours chalk and waste ground. As its name suggests it is a copper orange butterfly with dark brown markings. The Comma is an easily spotted butterfly with its scalloped wings and orange and yellow and brown colouring.Seen in gardens and woodland it declined in the 20th century but has now significantly increased in Southern Britain and has increased its range North. Both butterflies have emerged from my Victorian text book having been copied from the original plates and cut out and collaged onto a white board on a background of text. The flowers are created from a mix of different plants of reds and greens to compliment the colourful butterflies. The collage is framed with an off white mount board which is not attached enabling more choice for framing choices in terms of colour and size. Such magical creatures bring so much pleasure and when displayed with two or more collages create a statement of vivid colours. The collage measures 20 x 20cms and will be presented in a clear protective sleeve.
