The dichroic glass cabochon for this brooch was handmade, by me, with love. It was fused in my glass kiln to 1480 degrees F and annealed for strength. The brooch comprises 2 layers of carefully hand-cut fusing glass Coe 90. At the base, a layer of 3mm coloured bullseye glass. On top, a luxurious patchworked full layer of very special precious dichroic glass, richly coloured and patterned and using lots of different textures and colours of dichroic. I've included one piece of clear backed dichroic to let the base colour show through a little and to add more interest. The dichroic layer rather magically reflects or refracts different colours as they catch the light. Dichroic glass has to be the most perfect glass for a glass addict like myself. What I put into the kiln is never what comes out. I call it Magic. Note the word Dichroic means showing different colours when viewed from different directions. The cabachon is attached to a silver plated brooch pin back with E6000 strongest adhesive. My brooches vary slightly in size but are all approximately 3.75 x 3.75cm. I make no promise of symmetry and they are not designed to be, they are handcut glass and glass has a mind of its own and once fusing the kiln that does its own thing too. I could neaten them all off perfectly and refuse to make them smooth and perfect but that would lose some of the different characteristics and textures of all the individual types of dichroic i have used so choose not to. They are far more dramatic and eye catching as they are. I post them out in a luxury white gift box as shown in the photos.
