The Dawn Hare is a shrine for beginnings.
Inspired by the first stirrings of spring, snowdrops pushing through frozen ground and the quiet excitement of becoming who we might yet be, this one-of-a-kind textile artwork invites moments of reflection, remembrance and wonder.
Part artwork, part keepsake and part companion, The Dawn Hare opens to reveal a secret sanctuary; a tiny embroidered snowdrop garden nestled within a soft felt-lined chamber. Hidden behind leaf-shaped doors, this small stitched world celebrates resilience, hope and the return of light.
Handmade in my Leicestershire garden studio, each Curious Shrine is created slowly using layers of painted and dyed fabric, hand embroidery, decorative stitching, felt, glass gems and mixed media embellishments. No two shrines will ever be exactly alike.
Symbolism within the shrine includes:
The Hare - intuition, renewal and possibility
Snowdrops - resilience, hope and the promise of spring
Moon and stars - gentle guidance through periods of change
Opening doors - honouring the hidden parts of ourselves waiting to emerge
Curious Shrines are inspired by folklore, the turning year and the changing seasons of a woman's life. They are intended as small stitched sanctuaries, offering a place for story, reflection and a little everyday magic.
