About this item

This handspun light-weight shawl is hand-knitted in a 'Vandyke' lace pattern, inspired by old Shetland lace. It has a 'Vandyke' border along the two lower edges. I used handspun wool from the Wensleydale Sheep, sourced from the Farm Animal Rescue Sanctuary, Warwickshire. Although the shawl is cream, there are subtle variations in the colour, typical of handspun wool. Measurements: Approx 60" (152cm) wide x 31" (79cm) at its deepest point, and weighs 154g. Please note that the size of knitted items will vary depending on conditions and handling. Hand-wash with care; washing instructions included with the item. Please quote: Heidi - MPSH04-24

Useful Information

My handcrafted knitwear is all handspun using various fibres; the wool coming mainly from animal rescue centres. Where possible, the type of wool is shown. I spin the hair of cats and dogs – ideal for making keepsakes of beloved pets I also make products from plant fibres – flax, linen, cotton etc.

The Wensleydale wool used in this shawl was sourced from an animal rescue centre: https://www.farmanimalrescuesanctuary.co.uk/ Wensleydale sheep are adorable with their long locks of highly crimped wool. I knitted the shawl in a variation of the ‘Vandyke’ Shetland Lace pattern. I call the shawl style ‘Heidi', after one of the Angora Goats I used to have years ago when I lived in Orkney. I like to name my designs after the various pets I've had - it's a lovely way to remember them.
