These classic drop earrings are given a twist by featuring Californian surfite bezel set in sterling silver finished with simple silver hooks. The drops of surfite are a well matched pair with diagonal stripes in a fairly dark colour palette of maroon and dark grey but it is lightened by scarlet and green across the middle. most of the bands are opaque but the red and maroon are semi translucent. The open backed settings allow light to pass through the surfite so it looks subtly different depending on the lighting.The earrings measure approx 44mm top of hook to bottom and 15mm across. Comes gift boxed.

So what's surfite? It is many layers of cured resin that builds up during the 'glassing' step of custom surfboard manufacture (glassing is when the foam inner is covered in more durable resin). This build up is normally considered a waste material and thrown away but jewellers have started using it as a colourful and sustainable alternative to natural gems so these earrings would make a great gift for the surfer in your life or for someone keen on eco alternatives. I cut and polish the surfite myself and this particular batch of surfite came from a workshop in California (I don't know which one though).
