Mariposa Mohair Teddy Bear
Butterley Bears£88.75
Butterley Bears is owned by Mary, who was taught to sew at a young age by her mum and has always loved to get creative. Butterley Bears is born out of that creativity as well as an affection for traditional teddy bears. Mary still has her teddy from when she was a young girl; it was loved so much that it lost it's nose and had to have a new outfit sewn on by her mum to cover the worn out holes. Of course Mary loved it all the more after her mum's TLC.
In her late teens/early twenties, Mary started adding traditional mohair teddies to her 'hug' of bears, bought from local artisans. Butterley Bears is the natural blending of these hobbies.
Teddy sewing isn't Mary's main source of employment, and so with this being a slow-craft process, it may take a while to up date these pages and release details of new collections. Keep in mind that well known phrase: "Good things come to those who wait". x
FAQs
DO YOU TAKE COMMISSIONS?
Sorry to disappoint, but no.
WHY DON'T YOU USE SYNTHETIC FABRICS FOR YOUR BEARS?
I try to keep my use of plastic to a minimum. This means I use natural materials such as mohair, cotton or alpaca to make my bears and don't buy fabrics for my bears such as acrylic, polyester, nylon, which are all made from plastic. If a bear is made from 'faux fur', 'faux suede' or 'faux cashmere' etc, it's made from plastic.
The exception to this rule is that I do sometimes use pellets to weight my bears and also some stuffing which are made from recycled plastic bottles. I do also, sometimes re-purpose vintage material and trimmings which may contain polyester, acrylic etc. I feel it's better to upcycle these items rather than send them to landfill.
HOW DID BUTTERLEY BEARS GET IT'S NAME?
Butterley Bears is located in the Amber Valley in Derbyshire, UK, near the old Heritage site of Butterley Railway, Brick and Iron works.
