One of my new years resolutions this year is to read no dystopian fiction this year as the world is dystopian enough. So far I have managed it, but it appears I’m drawing them instead… I’m not sure that’s entirely what I had in mind!
When I showed this to my five year old, she said ‘Oh no daddy he’s digging up the train, stop him!’, but alas I couldn’t as this is a drawing, sorry Ida.
I’ve been working on this one for a while. During the making of it I picked up Covid-19, which took quite a while to properly shake off, but that might have been due to another bad thing happening which I won’t go into yet. Either way these two things may have either hindered or helped the final outcome (depending on your opinion of the drawing), but if you think this is the product of a deranged mind you probably haven’t seen anything yet…

The latest of my mini British dystopia series and this one is another local one (so local it's less than 50 metres from my house)
This features the 358 being forced back up the hill by a green stag beetle. Since 2024 the 358 has been an ie tram electric bus - a bus that's styled a bit like a tram but is in fact a bus. They have a large rechargeable battery that charges at each end of the route using a reverse pantograph, similar to how a tram gets power. There's questions over its reliability though, it runs from Crystal place to Orpington and sometimes the battery doesn't make it to the need to charge, but I like them, they look like we are in the future (and its a transportation utopia!)
Specifications:
- Printed with the Ultrachrome HDR archival ink system of the Epson 7890 LFP on Hahnemuehle Giclee German Etching Paper (Matt FineArt - textured paper, 310 gsm, 100% a-Cellulose, white, mould-made)
- Print ships rolled in a cardboard tube
- Frame is not included (just for illustration purposes)
