Each of these dainty drop earrings features a 10x8mm Shiva Eye Shell bead, topped with a trio of 5mm, 4mm and 2.5mm Swarovski crystal bicones in the colour 'jonquil', a pale lemon with a lovely sparkle.
The crystals are highlighted with 1.8mm gold vermeil beads.
Gold vermeil is sterling silver that has been plated with 18k gold.
The beads are threaded onto gold vermeil pins and hung from gold fill kidney wires.
The earrings are very lightweight and easy to wear.
Shiva Eye shell, with its distinctive creamy-white base and dark swirling spiral, is steeped in folklore.
The shell forms a protective 'door' at the opening of the Turban Snail shell, which detaches at the end of the snails life and falls to the sea bed.
They are most common in the beaches and shallow waters of Indonesia and Thailand, but are also found all over the world.
Around Indonesia it is known as 'Shiva Eye', a symbol of the God Shiva's third eye. As such it is seen as a sacred object of spiritual awakening and enlightenment.
As with most 'eyes', it is believed to protect the wearer and ward off evil.
Other names for this beautiful piece of natural geometry are 'Pacific cat's eye', 'mermaid's money', 'the eye of Naxos' and 'tears of Lucy'.
The last photo shows the reverse side of the shell.
Hand crafted in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon in the UK, these would make a beautiful gift for a birthday, anniversary, Mother's day or as a well deserved treat for yourself.
These earrings measure approximately 1.25 inches (3cm), excluding the ear-wires.
Your earrings will be wrapped in tissue and presented in an organza gift bag.
Price includes delivery within mainland UK.
