Handmade Jewellery from Oxfordshire using semi-precious stones, glass and acrylic beads and fine silver clay

Hi, I'm Fi and I live in Oxfordshire with my amazing husband and our crazy 6 year old rescue golden retriever.

I design and make beaded and fine silver jewellery in my home, a hobby that I started a good few years ago that has turned into a passion! I started out making beaded jewellery with my sister in my hometown, Edinburgh, but stopped for a while when life brought me down to Oxfordshire. Since being down here I have learned to use Silver Clay as a medium and am also learning silversmithing techniques when I can find some spare time! I find the process of designing and creating beautiful things very therapeutic and rewarding.

In my beaded pieces, I use a mix of semi-precious stones, crystals, fresh water pearls, glass, acrylic and metal beads with different types of wire. I work with 925 sterling silver, silver plated, gold plated, antique brass plated and copper wires, beading wire, cord and ribbon.

I use silver clay to create fine silver jewellery using a mixture of moulds, cutters, shaping and texturing. The process involves drying the clay over shaped to remove the water, then firing to burn off the binding agent to leave just the 99.9 grade fine silver pieces. Both of these processes cause natural shrinkage as the two elements are removed which changes the size of the clay. The shrinkage can't be controlled so you will notice that some earrings are slightly different sizes despite coming from the same moulds or cutters. Using texture mats can also result in a slightly different pattern. These little differences make these items unique and I love the definite handmade look this gives them!

I love working with semi-precious stones and crystals, both for their beauty and for their meanings. They are believed to have unique healing properties and symbolism, which I think makes the jewellery pieces feel more magical!
