Full description
I designed this necklace around the large vintage centrepiece, with 66 pearls, 72 garnets and 6 fluted sterling silver beads, as well as a sterling silver fastening to create a real statement.
The lightly faceted cherry red bakelite focal is from a 1950s bracelet that had lost more than a few of its components but left this bed almost untouched.
I didn't want to match its colour, but I didn't want to overshadow it either, and so I decided, after a few trials, to use the smooth round 4mm garnet beads with creamy white 7mm freshwater pearls.
The two strands are held securely at each end, and attached the carabiner style sterling silver fastening to bring the overall length to around 45cm.
