Full description

Jane Austen was the British author of some of the most beloved works of romantic fiction in the English language, including Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion. She is known for her brilliant characterisation and stories, but also her great wit and wisdom.

On this one mug I have distilled some of that wit and wisdom into a mere eight quotes. If you wish for more then read the books!

"What do we live but to make sport for our neighbours and laugh at them in our turn."

"A lady, without a family, was the very best preserver of furniture in the world."

"If a woman doubts as to whether she should accept a man or not, she certainly ought to refuse him."

"A person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel must be intolerably stupid."

"Angry people are not always wise."

"A girl likes to be crossed in love a little now and then. It is something to think of, and gives her a sort of distinction among her companions. "

"When pain is over, the remembrance of it often becomes a pleasure."

And perhaps my personal favourite:

"You shall not, for the sake of one individual, change the meaning of principle and integrity."

In other words, do not change your understanding of right and wrong merely to accommodate one person you like but who has done something wrong. Do not say 'lying is bad, but my friend (or hero) has lied, so now I will say lying is sometimes fine'. Do not give up so much to gain so little.

The mug is 11oz capacity and made from a glossy white ceramic which is microwave and dishwasher safe.

Any questions please ask.
