Full description

On this mug are maps of Britain from three eras of the distant past: the Iron Age around 40AD (just before the Romans arrived); Roman Britain at its height around 190 AD; and during the Dark Ages around 700 AD.

For the Iron Age I picked just before the Romans arrived, as that is when we know most about where the tribes were (thanks to Roman writers), and is significant for what happens next (i.e. Roman conquest, Boudica's Revolt etc.)

For the Roman map I picked around 190 AD, long after Rome rule is consolidated, but before Septimius Severus' re-organisation.

For the Dark Ages I picked around 700 AD, approximately the time of Bede, which is late enough that the important states have appeared and we have a reasonable idea about borders, but not so late that all the small ones have vanished or the Vikings have ruined everything.

Many historians do not like the term 'Dark Ages' any more, but 'Early Middle Ages' just doesn't have the same ring to it, and it really was pretty dark!

Mug is 11oz, glossy white ceramic and microwave and dishwasher safe.

Any questions please ask.
