THE RACE IS ON is a contemporary sculpture that captures the exhilarating moment of movement.
The naturally sculpted driftwood creates an extraordinary sense of movement, as though it has been caught racing through the air. Its shape was created entirely by the sea, making this a truly individual piece of natural sculpture.
Handcrafted by Steve of Grove House Art, the sculpture features genuine sea-weathered driftwood personally collected from the South Devon coast, mounted on a reclaimed wooden base.
This highly individual piece of sea weathered driftwood was collected personally from the sea shore when walking on our beautiful local beaches here in South Devon.
The moment I picked up this piece on the beach, it made me think of running and leaning into the finish, determined to reach the line first, so I mounted it exactly as I found it, because nature had already created all the movement it needed.
The driftwood is completely natural and has not been altered in anyway. It has simply been air dried and gently brushed to remove any excess debris.
The base has been stained and treated to seal the surface to enhance the overall appearance and visual contrast to the sculpture.
It is supplied with self adhesive cushion pads attached to the driftwood base, to protect the surface of where you wish to position and display the sculpture in your home.
Designed as a distinctive natural statement sculpture, The Race Is On works beautifully on a console, sideboard, mantel, shelf or table. It would suit contemporary, coastal, organic and natural interiors, bringing a unique piece of South Devon coastline into the home.
