Using prompts from Lydia Leigh Bennet's Spooky Summer Art Challenge 2026 I took the opportunity to play around with a different style; a playful, whimsical children's book aesthetic.

I wanted to invoke a feeling of growing up in the 90s, capturing the nostalgia and simplicity of a time long passed. I like the idea that when you go to bed the ghosts come out and play, getting up to mischief and enjoying the short summer nights before the world wakes up.

Using digital illustration to create these pieces allowed me to use techniques that are more difficult to achieve using traditional media such as transparencies, the ability to draw in symmetry, and the use of a consistent colour palette across the collection.
