Full description
This unique table lamp features items I found on the beach at Hythe on the Kent coast. The wooden structure is made from a section of pallet I found as driftwood on the beach. I've also incorporated razor clam shells, which I collected off the same beach after an autumn storm. To add detail and interest to the front of the lamp I've interspersed a sting of cultured freshwater rustic white pearls between the razor clam shells. Along the bottom of the razor clam shells at the front of the lamp I've added a textile element with a common whelk design that I created. I collected the whelk shell off the beach and after photographing it I applied various effects to come up with my own bespoke design. I then got a limited run of 1m x 1.4m printed on an eco-friendly velvet material. The velvet is made from 100% recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate (rPET).
This table lamp uses natural sea shells and so some variations in colour and size are present. The wooden pallet I used had also spent some time in the sea and, as a result, the wood has imperfections such as cracks, chips and discolorations. The metal nails have been exposed to salt water and have some rust on them. These imperfections have been used to add interest to the piece.
The lamp is lit using a COB (Chip-on-Board) LED strip with a Warm White light (3000 kelvin) at a brightness of 1000 lumens. The COB LED strip provides a smooth continuous line of light to give a clean professional look.
