I adore flowers of all shapes, colours and sizes. I'm a keen gardener and lover of flora and fauna and take great enjoyment in creating my own little world of flowers.

Full description

I've created this beautiful fused glass tile to evoke an image of poppies growing in a flower meadow with bees hovering above on a gorgeous summer's day with a fabulous blue sky.

The poppy is one of the traditional birth flowers for August, it's associated with themes of remembrance, imagination, peace, and resilience.

As an August birth flower, the poppy often represents someone who is compassionate, imaginative, and able to endure hardships while retaining a sense of beauty and hope. Poppies are known for thriving in disturbed soil and appearing after difficult conditions, giving them meanings of recovery, hope, and the ability to flourish after adversity.

Because some poppy species have sedative properties, poppies have long been linked with sleep, dreams and tranquility. In ancient Greek and Roman traditions, they were connected to deities associated with sleep and agriculture.

Not only is this one-off piece of glass art ideal for gifting to someone with their birthday in August it will also appeal to anyone with a love of flowers, the countryside or gardening but equally would add a unique vibe to your own home.

I created the picture using various different elements of coloured glass for the flowers, on top of a blue and white streaky background tile. I've fused it to a temperature that gives the picture a glossy texture. The sides are rounded and not uniformly straight which adds to the handcrafted nature of the piece.

Although I create various designs of flower meadow tiles, each one is truly unique as the streaky blue glass that I use will never have the same pattern and I use different flowers and colours to create the meadows.

The tile measures c.12cm wide x 10cm high and sits on a little easel so is ideal for displaying on a shelf, windowsill or table top. As it's free standing it can be moved to other places as desired.

Please be aware that due to variations in screen displays, the colours may appear slightly different in person to the photos.
