Thank you for popping into my shop! I’m a retired Graphic Designer, but thankfully I haven’t retired from being creative. I still love the process of making things, experimenting with colour, pattern and texture, and giving new life to all sorts of materials.
You’ll find a colourful and eclectic mix of handmade pieces in my shop, with birds and flowers featuring strongly throughout. I particularly enjoy combining unexpected materials, patterns and colours to create unique mixed-media pieces — so there’s always something a little different to discover.
I’m also a big believer in happy postage! If you find more than one item you’d like, I ALWAYS combine postage and refund any excess. I know it can be a little alarming to see the postage total increase as you add items to your basket, but please don’t worry. I’ll package your purchases together and refund the excess postage on the same day your order is dispatched.

Full description
This pretty, mixed media artwork is the first in a series of three. It would make a lovely handmade gift for a nature lover, or treat yourself and add a pop of colour to your home.
Capturing a moment on a summers day when a butterfly lands on a flower to feed 'A sip of nectar No.1' has been created with fabrics, papers, seed beads and embroidery threads.
The background has been made using a wet collage technique, combining layers of fabrics and papers in warm summery colours. Some of the fabrics have been tinted with acrylic paints and inks. The butterfly has been made with decoupage paper which I've painted with inks and pastels.
I've only attached the top of the echinacea petals so that they hang free which gives them a naturalistic appearance. I've fussy-cut and painted a couple of small flowers and sewn them with metallic embroidery threads which, along with a scattering of seed beads, adds a lovely bit of sparkle.
I've made a matching tag in case you're sending it as a gift.
The artwork comes in a white mount with aperture size 3.75 inches square and is in a good quality Nicola Spring 3D box frame which is 8 x 8 inches with a strut support on the back.
