Thank you for popping into my shop! I’m a retired Graphic Designer, but thankfully I haven’t retired from being creative. I still love the process of making things, experimenting with colour, pattern and texture, and giving new life to all sorts of materials.
You’ll find a colourful and eclectic mix of handmade pieces in my shop, with birds and flowers featuring strongly throughout. I particularly enjoy combining unexpected materials, patterns and colours to create unique mixed-media pieces — so there’s always something a little different to discover.
I’m also a big believer in happy postage! If you find more than one item you’d like, I ALWAYS combine postage and refund any excess. I know it can be a little alarming to see the postage total increase as you add items to your basket, but please don’t worry. I’ll package your purchases together and refund the excess postage on the same day your order is dispatched.

This colourful, textile artwork would make a wonderful gift for anyone who appreciates handmade pieces, textile art and beautiful, nature-inspired design.
At the heart of the piece is a handsome golden-yellow folk bird, perched among exotic blooms and eyeing up clusters of ripe, glossy red berries. He was completely hand sewn over a number of weeks, with layers of fabric, thread and embellishment creating his richly textured plumage. I've used a beautiful selection of fabrics, including subtly patterned batiks.
Individual breast feathers have been cut out, coloured with inks and secured with metallic thread and his wing incorporates a section of Indian embroidered trim, adding more pattern and texture. Embroidered threads add yet more colour and detail to his plumage, while his perch is made from chunky wool, giving the branch a wonderfully tactile quality.
Surrounding the bird is a profusion of exotic, stylised flowers, each one created from layers of fabric and embellished with metallic threads and tiny seed beads. Scattered among them are clusters of delicate little flowers in white and pastel shades, hand sewn directly onto the background fabric.
The deep brown background has been painted with inks to create a rich, atmospheric backdrop that really makes the warm colours of the bird, flowers and berries sing. And, because a little sparkle never goes amiss, I've added gold sequins with seed-bead centres, catching the light and giving the whole piece an extra touch of shimmer.
A labour of love and a true one-off, this is a real statement piece for anyone who loves nature, colour and the beauty of handcrafted design.
The artwork comes in a good quality double mount and is framed in a shadow box with a strut back. The outer measurements are 225 x 275mm. Visible area is 125 x 175mm. It is titled and signed on the reverse.
