The Story Behind the Art

The best way to understand my work is to look at how the art world sees it. As "Artists & Illustrators magazine" recently noted: "This contemporary artist creates thought-provoking pieces, exploring the chaos found in nature with a touch of surrealism. "My name is Serghei Stepanov (TuneDeco). My journey into illustration was shaped by a childhood in the early eighties, tag-along trips to gallery openings with my photojournalist father, and hours spent imitating a university art professor who lived next door. I grew up sketching ideas on paper before building them, obsessed with the shapes of the natural world. In 2020, following a pandemic redundancy, I decided to stop waiting and follow my dream of becoming a full-time artist. My creative practice is deeply rooted in both traditional and digital mediums. I believe that classical drawing skills and modern digital tools perfectly complement one another. Every new piece begins as a "Tabula Rasa"—a completely clean slate. My process is an intuitive battle of construction and deconstruction. While creating these clean lines involves plenty of frustration and refinement behind the scenes, the end result is a calm, minimalist aesthetic. By using a mix of physical sketching and precise digital tools to strip away the noise, I invite you to see the true, crisp character of the subjects I create.
