Landscape Paintings and Sheffield Building Prints.

Hello! I am Nicola Ellen of Nicola Ellen Illustration. I am an illustrator and artist living in Sheffield. I pull a lot of my inspiration from the historic buildings of Sheffield and beautiful landscapes of the Peak District that surround me.

I have been drawing, painting and creating my own characters since I was very little and continued that through my studies, eventually graduation with a degree in Illustration and Design. These days, I fill lots of sketchbooks with landscapes from wherever I go out exploring. I usually have a Faber-Castell pen or pencil and a tiny sketchbook to jot down quick sketches while on the go. If I have longer to sit down somewhere and draw, like the beach, I will take a bigger sketchbook, a small pack of watercolours, a water brush and a Faber-Castell pen. Then when I'm back at my desk, I use those sketches as the basic for paintings.

I like to use a range of media to make marks. My building illustrations are drawn in Faber-Castell pens and then printed on to recycled paper. For my landscapes, I use oil pastels and acrylic paint to get more movement and colour.
