I create unique, one off pieces of mixed media and textiles

I am a mixed media and textiles artist using a variety of media in my work, which reflects my love of painting and textiles, and blurs the boundaries of Fine Art and Textiles practice. I like to use a combination of materials that may otherwise be thrown away, like bubble wrap, sweet wrappers, foil, stamps, and fabric, layering them on the canvas surface and overpainting with oils, sometimes adding stitch for an extra layer of rich texture.
My work is mostly abstract but some of my textiles work has had a more figurative aspect, driven by my wish to express my passion for and concerns about the environment, in particular, the destruction of rainforests. Weaving is my current pre-occupation, in particular, tapestry weaving- I am a member of the British Tapestry Group as well as Midlands Textile Forum, a group of exhibiting textile artists from the wider Midlands area.I have recently bought a spinning wheel and am slowly learning to spin my way through some fleeces and fibres that I was gifted. Alongside this, I have been collecting lichens on my daily walks ( only fallen lichens, never off the trees) and having a go at dyeing my hand spun wool with them and also with other natural materials such as avocado skins and pits.
I am mostly inspired by the natural world , in particular trees, but also by the love of the materials themselves and by a curiosity of how they can be used in different ways.
