Part of the winter wreath collection. Mistletoe is the most romantic of the winter greens, and one of the hardest to come by. It can't be planted like other greenery. A bird has to leave a seed on a branch, and with luck it takes root. For this wreath I used mistletoe growing on my own apple tree, which I gathered, arranged and illustrated from life. Every sprig is hung with pearly white berries, and I've painted plenty of them so the wreath looks full and generous. Hanging mistletoe in the doorway is an old English custom. A kiss beneath it was said to bring good luck and lasting love, and in some traditions a berry was picked with each kiss until none were left. It's a lovely gift for couples, newlyweds or anyone who loves old-fashioned Christmas traditions. Illustrated with dip pen and ink, watercolour washes and coloured pencil, this wreath is a festive decoration that will never wilt or drop its berries. Hang it at your entrance to welcome the season, and perhaps a kiss or two.
