Part of the winter wreath collection. Holly is the original Christmas greenery. Long before it was a festive symbol, people brought it indoors at midwinter because it stays green and berries through the coldest months. It was traditionally hung over doors and windows to protect the home, and it was thought unlucky to cut it down without good reason. For this wreath I wanted to keep things classic: a perfect circle of glossy green holly leaves and bright red berries, with nothing else added. Here's a fun fact for gift-givers: only female holly bushes produce berries, so every red berry in this wreath is a small winter miracle. Illustrated with dip pen and ink, watercolour washes and coloured pencil, this wreath is a timeless festive decoration that will never wilt or drop its leaves. Hang it near your entrance to welcome the season, and keep the home protected, as holly has done for centuries.
