Full description

Silk cushion with feather pad.

Cushion measures approx 45cm x 28cm and comes with a concealed zip and feather pad.

Pattern placement may vary slightly.

The reverse side is plain black obi silk.

These cushions are made from vintage Japanese Silk Fukuro Obi's.

This particular cushion is made from a vintage Showa Era Obi belt. Heavily woven silk brocade and metalic threads on a black background.

The main design is the Japanese butterfly, chocho or cho motif. This symbolizes joy, elegance, transformation, and youthful femininity in traditional and modern art

On a background of plum blossom motifs, known as ume, which are traditional symbols of perseverance, renewal, and good fortune.

We carefully select and import the silk fabric belts directly from Japan, only upcycling items that have been inspected for craftmanship and quality.

Millions of unused vintage kimonos and heavy silk obi sashes end up discarded in Japan today due to changing daily fashion, complicated dressing rules, and a lack of younger generations wearing them.

It is a tragedy that so many of them are discarded. Many hours of craftmanship have gone into each item and we believe these beautiful heritage fabrics should be appreciated. By upcycling them, we reduce waste and you get a small piece of a highly technical and mastered art that is dying out.

It is very hard to capture the colour of the heavily embroidered silks with metalic threads as the colour can change depending on the angle the fabric is viewed from.

Please treat colours as indicative only as individual screen setting will vary.
