Full description

10am-1pm. My studio in Low Valleyfield, Fife, KY12 8TL

Got a favourite item of clothing that needs a little TLC? Rather than throwing it away, bring it along and learn how to repair or alter it yourself.

This relaxed, practical three-hour session is suitable for anyone who already has basic sewing machine skills. You may have attended one of my classes before, or simply have some sewing experience and feel comfortable using a sewing machine and sewing by hand.

We can look at all sorts of useful repairs and simple alterations, including:

Patching and creative mending

Machine darning

Repairing soft toys and textile items

Sewing on buttons

Shortening skirts and trousers

Simple clothing alterations

Replacing a broken zip

Giving a much-loved garment a new lease of life

Bring up to two items that need repairing or altering. We'll look at each one together and I'll guide you through the best way to tackle it, step by step.

The aim is for you to do the repair yourself, with guidance and support from me. That way, you'll have the confidence and skills to tackle similar repairs at home in future.

What's included?

Use of studio sewing machines

Use of the studio's sewing tools and equipment

Expert guidance throughout the session

Lots of individual help and encouragement

Please bring your own haberdashery and replacement materials.

I don't keep a stock of haberdashery for this class, so if your repair requires something specific such as a zip, please bring it with you.

This is a hands-on learning session rather than a repair service. I'll show you how to approach the repair and guide you through it, but you'll be doing the sewing yourself.

The class requires a minimum of two participants to run. If we don't reach the minimum, we may need to cancel or reschedule the session. If this happens, we'll contact you and offer either a full refund or an alternative date. Please keep an eye on your phone the day before our session, for updates.
