Full description

Climbing on the gneiss cliffs above Gruinard Bay I topped the route and clipped into the anchor. Sat in the breeze I looked out above the bay; so often I forget to relax and look at the view. Waves gently lapped against the shore, the sun glinting against a small isolated rock in the cove.

I looked again and the rock seemed to move, lifting and twisting with the movement of the water. It took a while to realise that a large chunk of the rock was not a rock at all; but a harbour seal laid awkwardly across it sunbathing, its flippers draped over the edge. Occasionally the seal would disappear, sliding gracelessly into the water, I imagined to play in the swell or cool off before clumsily lifting its bulk back onto the rock.

Having packed up the gear I walked back to my van and the seal was still there, enjoying the solitude, looking on as the sun dipped in the sky.

My Jars of the Highlands Collection uses water scooped up at each of the locations. Since moving to the Highlands one of the biggest changes has been my emotional connection to the water around me; whether kayaking, wild swimming or just marvelling at its beauty. I wanted to capture lf my experiences in watercolour, and painting with this collected water has allowed me to capture the essence of the places I have been.

This A5 giclée print is produced from an original watercolour illustration

21cm wide by 29.7cm high.

Packaged in recyclable and compostable materials so that your print reaches you in perfect condition.

Fits a standard frame.

Painted and printed in the Scottish Highlands.

Sold unframed so that you can choose a style to suit your home, this A5 print would look great framed perched on a shelf. Or team it up with some of my other print designs to create a Highlands-inspired gallery wall.
