This knitted wool sauna hat is carefully made in small batches. As someone who regularly uses sauna, I wanted a hat that was thick enough to properly insulate, but that still felt light, breathable and comfortable to wear.

Traditionally worn in Nordic sauna culture, sauna hats help insulate the head from intense heat. By protecting the head from prolonged expose to high temperature, they can make sauna session more comfortable and enjoyable, particularly during longer and hotter sessions. Many people also wear sauna hats to help protect their hair and scalp from prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Wool is particularly well suited to this purpose because it is naturally breathable, moisture-managing, and insulating. The hat can be worn either dry or lightly dampened before use for additional cooling, depending on personal preference.

Each Tontu sauna hat is lightly fulled after knitting. By experimenting with the felting process, I found that lightly fulling the wool creates a balance that works particularly well for sauna use - adding thickness, durability, and insulation while avoiding stiffness. The result is a hat that remains soft but structured and durable.

Care

Rinse in cool water if needed. Hang to dry using the external loop. Reshape while damp and air dry only. Do not machine wash.
