Sterling silver and moonstone brooch inspired by lichen

Inspired by woodland lichen, this delicate sterling silver brooch has been handcrafted using traditional silversmithing techniques, recycled sterling silver, 24ct gold foil and a moonstone gemstone. It would make a thoughtful gift for anyone who loves botanical jewellery, woodland-inspired design and nature's smaller wonders. When walking through the Scottish woodlands, I am often fascinated by the way lichen creates miniature landscapes full of texture and detail. Much of its beauty goes unnoticed until you pause and look closely. I wanted this brooch to capture that same feeling, revealing its finer details gradually rather than making a bold statement at first glance. The design centres around a textured lichen form containing smaller lichen shapes nestled within it. Selected details have been highlighted with 24ct gold foil, creating a gentle contrast against the silver, while a 4mm moonstone adds a soft, ethereal glow. A subtle patina has been applied to the main lichen shape to enhance the textures and depth of the piece.
