Inspired by the shifting patterns of the shoreline, I wanted this one-of-a-kind silver ring to echo the ripples left behind on the sand as the waves recede.
Designed for those drawn to unusual jewellery and tactile surfaces.
This ring began as a hand-carved wax model before being cast in recycled sterling silver using the ancient technique of lost wax casting. I then used the Japanese art of Chokin to apply tiny marks to the ring's surface, creating the feeling of waves and ripples.
I've always been fascinated by surface detail. It's evidence of life, of time, touch and presence. As people, we respond to what feels lived in; texture is comfort. (Juhani Pallasmaa, The Eyes of the Skin.)
The markings on this ring are inspired by our beach walks along the Scottish coast with The Wolf, where rough meets smooth, and where life is etched into the earth.
