Original handmade 3 colour linocut print. 10.3 x 15.3 cm on A5 (15 x 21cm paper).

It depicts Little Underbank, a street near the old Market square, in the historic and characterful Stockport Old Town area.

I love Stockport - I've been drawing it for years because it's full of interesting buildings and being hilly, you get lots of interesting viewpoints & angles to draw from.

It was looking very tired and empty in the recent past, but loads of very cool creative, independent businesses (retail, food, clothes, cafés, bars, vintage etc) have gradually transformed the town.

I love this viewpoint of Little Underbank, from St Peters Square bridge & have drawn it several times. The beautiful old Robinson's brewery building looms at the far end.

The print was based upon my drawings and depicts the street at twilight, when it really gets going.

It's 3 colours, so 3 separate blocks were drawn, cut (by me) then inked up and printed on my studio press. There will be an impression on the back of the print, caused by the pressure of the press & probably some remains of the tape used to register each piece of paper, so the colours align correctly. It's intensive work!

Each print will be marked A/P (artist's proof) with the title, Little Underbank, Stockport & signed JF Edwards, in pencil, below the image. It's in an open edition, i.e. not limited to a finite number. This means I can keep prices lower, but it doesn't mean it's not an original handmade print & each will vary slightly from the others. It is not a machine produced print, like e.g. a Giclée print. Your print will be inside a biodegradable cellophane sleeve and recycleable packaging.

I think it would make a lovely gift for someone who loves Stockport. I'll be posting other prints I've made that have the town or parts of it (e.g. the amazing Viaduct and the Pyramid).
