Full description
Each of these dainty, light earrings features a 10mm Mother-of-Pearl butterfly, set between a pair of 2mm faceted A grade blue Apatite beads highlighted with tiny sterling silver spacers.
The beads are threaded onto sterling silver wire and hung from 18mm sterling silver hoops.
The butterflies have a delicate, creamy white colour and excellent lustre.
Mother of Pearl is the name given to the lining or nacre of mollusc shells, a unique combination of minerals secreted by molluscs that have a width similar to light waves, which gives the nacre an iridescent, shimmering sheen.
It is the same material the mollusc uses to create Pearls.
These would be a perfect little gift for a bride, or a thank you gift for a bridesmaid.
Pearl has long been associated with weddings, symbolising integrity, purity, loyalty and faith.
The butterfly is commonly used in Chinese symbolism to represent joy and warmth, and the Romans associated butterflies with wedded bliss.
In Japanese cultures, two butterflies flying together represent young love, joy, and a happy marriage.
The Apatite beads add a pop of 'something blue'.
Handmade in my home workshop here in beautiful Devon in the UK, these would make a lovely gift for a bride or a bridesmaid, full of symbolism for a special day yet easily wearable for years to come.
These lightweight earrings measure approximately 1inch (2.5cm), excluding the hoops.
Your earrings will be wrapped in tissue and presented in an organza gift bag.
