Full description

This spalted maple bowl is a masterclass in nature's artistry. Striking, ink-like zone lines across a creamy grain, creating a dramatic contrast. Hand-turned to a smooth finish, it's a piece that celebrates the beauty of natural decay transformed into fine art.

Spalting is a unique form of wood colouration caused by fungal colonization. As fungi travel through the timber, they leave behind dark "zone lines," bleaching, or vibrant pigments. This process occurs in dead or decaying trees, creating intricate, marbled patterns highly prized by woodworkers and artists.
