Tanzanite jewellery can be expensive, especially made with high-quality, deep-blue stones, though prices vary significantly based on quality, size, and other factors. Its high cost is due to its extreme rarity, as it is only found in one location in the world near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. All tanzanite mines have now closed which has increased the value significally over recent years.

Plain tanzanite rounds displaying exceptional colour are difficult to obtain within the trade. Only very skilled lapidorists can cut this mineral in order to avoid loosing it's colour or braking it during the cutting process.
