HANDMADE DORSET BUTTON AND KUMIHIMO BRAIDED NECKLACE I made a Dorset button by working crochet cotton around a plastic ring. The colours are variegated lilac, purple and white. I also made two 'linking' rings in lilac cotton thread worked over smaller brass rings. The creation of Dorset buttons was originally a large cottage industry in Dorset, England between 1622 and 1850, after which they were overtaken by machine-made buttons. I also made a braid using the same colours and the Japanese Kumihimo technique. I have used silver coloured jewellery findings to attach the Dorset buttons to the braid and for the lobster clasp closure at the back of the necklace. SIZE - The inner circumference is 17.5" (44.5cm ) This stylish necklace is my own design so it is truly unique. If you would like me to make matching earrings, please feel free to contact me. I will pack the necklace in tissue paper and an organza drawstring gift bag.
