About this item
A hand carved Parian scarab. Parian is a porcelain developed in the 19th century prized for its marble like quality. This delicate material lends to the dainty nature of this scarab – smaller than the palm of your hand. It is 7cm long, 3.5cm wide and 2.5cm high. There is a hole at its centre perfect for displaying on a pin, so this scarab may hang on the wall just like a beetle under glass. A decorative curio fit for any collector’s cabinet.

Scarabs are famous among insects for the symbolism they invoke. For medieval Christians they were totems of Christ, drawing on Egyptian metaphors of the scarab as an emblem of resurrection and the immortality of soul. These curious beetles seem to inspire belief in oneself. For Oscar Wilde adopted the scarab has his personal sigil – a potent symbol of the power of authenticity. I have come to think of the scarab as a totem of spirit. There is something so pleasing about seeing rows and rows of beetles inside a display case. Their similarity deceiving, as no two beetles are truly alike. I wished to experiment with just how small I could hand carve and so these beetles are purposely dainty. Inspired by a variety of antiquated aesthetics each scarab is a token of European heritage.
What buyers say about Flea Moon
The photos don't do these little ones justice!! I AM OBSESSED!! They are so well made, detailed and adorable I highly recommend anyone to purchase an imp or two!! SO well packaged to prevent breakages! I was amazed at how well packaged they were. I will be buying more of these precious little imps in the future, as well as asking for them for birthdays and Christmas. I love collecting unusual pieces of art, and they fit right in with my collection! and I cannot wait to collect more!!
