Handwoven Merino, Silk & Llama Scarf – Orange, Red & Gold

A one-of-a-kind handwoven scarf combining warm, glowing shades of orange and red with richly textured handspun yarn. I wove this scarf on my rigid heddle loom using a 100% merino wool warp in three shades of orange: pale orange, tangerine and dark orange. The colours are arranged in random wide stripes, giving the scarf a relaxed, organic appearance. The weft is entirely my own handspun yarn, created from several luxurious natural-fibre blends. The yarns have plenty of texture, including beautiful silk slubs and subtle variations in thickness, making every section of the scarf slightly different. The red and orange handspun brings together: red BFL wool a red/orange blend of Corriedale wool and sari silk a yellow/orange blend of merino, llama, mulberry silk and sari silk, with little flecks of green The result is a warm, tactile scarf with plenty of visual interest. The combination of the striped merino warp and textured handspun weft creates a fabric that is full of colour and character while remaining soft and comfortable to wear. This is a completely unique, handmade scarf. The yarn was spun and the scarf woven by me in my home studio, so there is no other scarf quite like it.
