Japanese literature is becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with titles such as 'Butter' and 'Before the Coffee gets cold' becoming bestsellers, but whatever you choose to read, make sure you've got one of these stylish bookmarks! Making corner bookmarks was a no-brainer for me because they perfectly fulfil my objective to make pretty, yet practical accessories. They can even double up as a handy emergency coaster! I made these bookmarks from 'charms' (5" x 5" squares of fabric) obtained from Japan Crafts, a UK based online shop that sources beautiful 100% cotton fabric directly from Japan. The charms depict traditional Japanese motifs such as cherry blossom and turtles as well as intricate, repeating geometric patterns including 'Asanoha' (hemp leaf) and 'Seigaiha' (blue ocean waves). Each bookmark measures 10.5 x 10.5 cm. Machine washable.
