Peacock Bead Embroidery

This took a couple of weeks to make. Bead embroidery is very time-consuming, but oh, it's so worth it. The Peacock consists of hundreds and hundreds of tiny glass beads, all meticulously hand-sewn into position to create texture, layers and movement. I used fabulous watermelon Austrian crystals which change colour when you move and give the piece an intense sparkle. Smaller Sapphire coloured crystals add depth and highlights. The embroidery is further enhanced by the use of stunning freshwater Pearls that ground the piece and give it depth. The central body consists of hand-dyed Shibori silk, the shifting colours in the silk bring the Peacock to life. Egyptian Beetle Wings sewn into the design lend an iridescent colour that is almost luminous, adding to the flavour and personality of the piece. The Peacock is set on a neck line of glass and crystal to echo the theme of feathers. This is a very large piece, but it feels very light around the neck.
