The background has been built up with layers of beautiful fabrics, including a selection of subtly patterned batiks. Pieces of decoupage paper have been added to introduce contrasting textures and to give the surface extra depth and interest. The tawny owl has been carefully created by layering fabrics and decoupage papers, with embroidery threads and acrylic inks used to add fine details, and subtle colour variations to his plumage. I've fussy-cut stylised bracken and coloured it with inks before embellishing it with tiny seed beads in soft peach and copper tones. The beads catch the light beautifully, adding a delicate touch of sparkle amongst the foliage. Metallic embroidery threads add another subtle shimmer, woven through the bracken and used to stitch a scattering of tiny stars across the night sky. There's something magical about an owl appearing beneath a starry sky, and I've tried to capture that quiet, enchanting feeling in this piece. With its layers of fabric, paper, stitch and embellishment, it's a truly original artwork with plenty of little details to discover. The artwork is presented in a black and white frame - outer measurements 22.5x17.5cm and a good quality double mount with a 9.5x15cm aperture. The frame has glass at the front with a hanging hook and strut on the reverse, allowing you to choose how it is displayed. It is titled and signed on reverse. I have included photos of the artwork in and out of the frame. It has been photographed with the glass removed to reduce glare.
