I am very lucky to live only a short distance from Chawton village where Jane Austen lived for the last eight years of her life & wrote & revised her six novels. After Cassandra's death in 1845 Jane Austen's house was divided into three dwellings & a working mans club. My great grandmother lived in one of the dwellings & my grandmother was born there. One of my ancestors was lady's maid to Cassandra Austen & is mentioned in some of the letters Cassandra wrote to Jane. Jane died in Winchester in 1817 & is buried there. Their mother & Cassandra continued living in Chawton for the rest of their lives & they are both buried in Chawton churchyard.
