After carefull drying the hedgehog iis placed in the kiln for an initial firing, before being heavily stained with dark metallic oxides, with further layers of a deep rich brown glossy glaze, with delicate touches of a mossy green where the glaze s thicker, enhancing the form, define facial features and give a contrast between the harder, spiky texture of the body and sofer area around the edge of the face. fired then for a second time in the kiln to a very high frost proof temperature making them suitable for outdoors but equally attractive indoors.
