Beached Milkshake - sculpture from recycled materials

Created as part of the "What is Precious?" Design Nation showcase of sustainable craft. Embellished and embroidered recycled fabric inspired by coastal textures cast with papercrete inside found drinks cups. Suitable for display shelf/plinth. Looks good in a bell jar. This is an ongoing series about the ongoing problem of single-use disposable plastic bottles. It is the litter in our towns and cities that gets swept into drains then into our waterways and eventually out to sea that is the cause of plastic pollution of our coasts and seas including remote islands hundreds of miles away from the nearest convenience store or take away. Somebody once compared them to biblical samplers: beautiful to have around and to hang on your wall but at the same time a moral reminder. A lovely way to put it. medium yellow - Because my work is concerned with the environment, I reuse clean packaging like tissue paper and padded envelopes. I can also wrap and send items as gifts directly with a note.
