This pastel painting is based on a photograph taken in Scotland, but with a little fantasy twist in some of the colours used to give the sunrise a little more vibrancy. I could just imagine the Fellowship of the Ring making its way across this scene. This painting measures 26 x 20 cm (or 36 x 30 cm including its green double mount) and was completed on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper using soft pastels, with pastel pencils only used as a finishing touch for some of the smaller details.in the hills and mountains. I'm actually surprised I managed to get this painting done at the time as it was the last one I completed before moving house and the previous 12 months had been quite hectic, as house moves often are. In amongst the busy activity of moving house, stopping to do this painting was a chance to relax and this quiet but vibrant landscape was just the thing to chill out to.
