About this item
This is an original, hand carved and hand-pulled print. Two blocks, one for each colour are carved and then individually inked. This manual process means that there will be slight variations between prints, making each one unique; however the photos shown here are of the actual print for sale. There are only six prints in this edition - this one is Number 2. The prints were made on marbled paper created specifically for this design by fellow Folksy artist 'The Whimsical Marbler' - check out her shop! I have done my best to represent the colours accurately but they may display differently on some screens. I love the woodblock prints of Utagawa Hiroshige and have always been captivated by his print 'Suido Bridge and Surugadai' which depicts a carp streamer or 'Koinobori' which are flown in Japan to celebrate Children's day (Boy's day back in 1857) which occurs on 5th May every year. I can't claim to be anywhere near that standard of print making but the carp in my print is a nod to that particular flying fish. This limited edition run of 6 prints was made on specially commissioned marbled paper - created by fellow Folksy artist - The Whimsical Marbler. This means that each of the six prints is completely unique.
