OLWYN - “white footprint” A ceramic sheep made in a white earthenware clay, and glazed with a glossy speckled ivory body and iron oxide head. These little ornaments have been made using a pinch pot technique, and are hollow, with a textured body. Each sheep has been given a traditional Welsh name, and comes with a small description tag giving the meaning behind that name. They measure approximately 8cm in diameter.

Sheep are very symbolic in and of Wales, and almost every Welsh artist has created their own interpretation of one of our most loved icons. My own family on my fathers side hail from a long line of hardy Llyn Peninsula farmers. Sheep were incredibly valuable in their lives, until around two generations ago when mining promised more wealth and less hardships. The tradition of farming in my family was lost to coal. In some small way, these little characters are my tribute to my family, to my Welsh heritage.

I'll admit that my heart sank when I saw that Evri would be delivering this order, but to give them their due, they were prompt, and kept me well informed throughout the process. And as for the soap dishes themselves? I couldn't be happier with them! They are exactly as pictured - the verdigris is so pretty! - and they were beautifully wrapped. The little bars of soap that were presented with the dishes was such a lovely and thoughtful touch! I'm already using the dishes and not only do they look good, but the cork backing prevents them from sliding around, so they function well too!
