About this item
An original watercolour painting of roses on canvas. The painting features one open rose facing left, 2 rosebuds with leaves and a sprig of gypsophilia on a rich cream and pale pink background. It was created in my Norfolk studio. I have used gouache for depth and texture for the petals and watercolour provides all the detail and shadow. The painting continues around the sides. The measurements are 70cm x 50cm x 4cm and is ready to hang. I have called this painting Rose Study I.

Sometimes I need a change from the traditional discipline of watercolour painting so I go a bit off piste and use a canvas which makes me change the way I paint. I use gouache for a solid base effect but I can't resist the fluidity of watercolour pigment for long because I always return to it for detail and shadow on the textured petals. In this painting the principal rose is facing towards the left whereas in Rose Study II the open rose is facing right. I tried to create a soft, romantic look for this pair so it might work just as well as a wedding, anniversary gift or in your own home.
